SAP HANA architecture mainly consists of the following layers:
1. Client Layer
Users access SAP HANA through:
• SAP GUI
• SAP Fiori
• SAP BusinessObjects
• SAP Analytics Cloud
• Third-party applications
2. Application Layer
Processes business logic.
Examples:
• SAP S/4HANA
• SAP BW/4HANA
• Custom Applications
3. Database Layer
This is the heart of SAP HANA.
It contains:
• In-Memory Engine
• SQL Engine
• Calculation Engine
• Planning Engine
• Predictive Engine
4. Persistence Layer
Although data is stored in RAM, SAP HANA also saves it to the disk.
Purpose:
✔ Prevent data loss
✔ Recovery after power failure
5. Operating System
Linux manages memory, CPU, storage and communication.
