About the Role Metrix IT Solutions is seeking an experienced SAP IS-U Technical Consultant to join a strategic utility transformation program for one of its enterprise clients in Orange, Connecticut. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for senior SAP professionals with strong expertise in SAP IS-U ABAP development and a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale utility solutions. As an SAP IS-U Technical Consultant, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting technical solutions within the SAP IS-U landscape. You will work closely with functional consultants, architects, business users, and integration teams to deliver high-quality developments that support customer service, billing, metering, device management, and utility business processes. The role requires extensive hands-on experience in ABAP development, RICEF objects, enhancements, interfaces, performance optimization, and SAP S/4HANA migration initiatives. You will participate throughout the project lifecycle, from requirement analysis and technical design to deployment, production support, and continuous application improvements. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain SAP IS-U ABAP applications for utility business processes. Develop RICEF objects including Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflow components. Create and enhance ABAP Objects, Function Modules, Classes, Methods, and reusable development frameworks. Build and optimize interfaces using IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, Web Services, and REST-based integrations. Develop enhancements using BADIs, User Exits, Enhancement Framework, and implicit/explicit enhancement techniques. Optimize existing ABAP programs for SAP HANA performance and database efficiency. Prepare Technical Design Documents (TDD), Functional Specifications, Unit Test documents, and deployment guides. Support data migration, integration testing, user acceptance testing, production deployment, and hypercare activities. Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable technical solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including SAP FICA, Device Management, Billing, CRM, and Enterprise Integration teams. Ensure compliance with SAP development standards, coding guidelines, and quality assurance processes. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 10–15 years of SAP ABAP development experience with significant exposure to SAP IS-U. Strong experience delivering utility industry implementation or support projects. Hands-on expertise in RICEF development, ABAP Objects, Enhancements, BADIs, User Exits, and SAP integration technologies. Experience working on SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA environments. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within distributed project teams.
